The CAT is the Libraries' online public catalog
. The CAT contains catalog records for materials both physically owned by the Penn State Libraries and resources such as Internet sites and other electronic resources to which the Libraries have ownership rights. Presently, there are more than 1.9 million records in The CAT, representing books, music, journals, archival materials, maps, databases, and other formats. The CAT contains records for on-order materials as well as fully cataloged materials; as new items are received and cataloged, their status is updated online. The CAT contains full bibliographic, location, and status information for each item.

The CAT is equipped with Online HELP and FAQ pages to help users become familiar with the system. A number of CAT introductory seminars are scheduled as well. Patrons are encouraged to attend one of these sessions. In addition, an on-line tutorial on the CAT and its functionalities is available.
