While each subject library in Paterno Library contains circulating "stacks" materials, the book shelving section of Pattee Library that runs along the glass wall facing Curtin Road is the area most often referred to as "the stacks." The seven levels of stacks in this area are devoted to Arts and Humanities Library books and bound journals.

Beginning from the basement level and moving upward, the stacks are labelled B, BA, 1, 1A, 2, 2A, and 3. Level B is accessible from the basement ramp leading from the wide central stairs. Level 1 is contiguous with and accessible from Pattee Library 1st floor at numerous points, while level 2 is contiguous with and accessible from Pattee Library 2nd floor at numerous points. All levels are accessible by several strategically-located elevators and stairways.
Stacks

The shelf location message on the CAT records for books housed in this area reads "Pattee - Stacks + number. For example, the shelf location for Running in the Family by Michael Ondaatje is "Pattee - Stacks 3," meaning Level 3, the top level of the stacks. Listings of call number ranges located on each level are posted near the elevator in the center of the stack core and in various locations throughout the stacks.

Please note that the lights in the stacks are operated by patron-controlled timers located on the ends of the stack ranges.

For assistance in locating materials, inquire at the Arts and Humanities Reference Desk, 202 Pattee Library.
