Sensor AlarmsThis is a featured page

To clear up any confusion about slips and the procedures for helping patrons get out of the library if the alarm goes off as they exit:

  • If the patron has library materials, ask if they have been checked out. If not, refer them to the nearest or most convenient circulation point. This may be a self-check, Reserves, or Lending.
  • If they say that they have checked out the material, call Lending at 5-5429 and read the item id to a Lending employee to see if the material is indeed checked out. If it is, desensitize it, thank the patron, and allow them to leave.
  • We are not referring patrons to Lending or Reserves to get a slip. It is problematic for these desks to generate a slip on items that have already been checked out. The slip is not needed, since we can verify that the item is checked out by calling Lending.
