In Process BooksThis is a featured page

When searching in the CAT, patrons will sometimes run into an item for which the record gives a location of "material being cataloged," "In process," or "On Order." This happens because a librarian has indeed ordered that title for the collection, and the order has been put into the system. We also want to be able to let patrons know that the book is coming, even if not here now. Unfortunately, however, patrons cannot put these books on hold using 'I Want It.'

This often produces a lot of frustration. Here is your opportunity to turn the person's frustrating experience into a positive one :) The cataloging department has a form that these folks can fill out (you do not have to fill it out for the person, but you could definitely let them use your computer to do it).

Direct the patron to go to here

They can then fill in the item information and submit the form. When the book becomes available they will be notified.

Alternatively, if the person is on! a very short timeline and needs the materials right away, you may direct them to submit an inter-library loan request and we'll borrow the book from another library for them (free of charge). These forms are at https://ill.libraries.psu.edu/UPM/. Advise the patron to enter a note that says something like "the book is in the CAT, but on order, and I need it right away."That will ensure that their request is processed, and not just automatically kicked back to them because the item is technically cataloged.
